Tuticorin: Carlos, a 10-year-old male sniffer dog of Labrador breed attached to Tuticorin district police, bagged the ‘Best Dog’ title in Tirunelveli range (Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts) at the police meet organised by district police administration here on Friday.

A total of eight dogs (three from Tuticorin district, two from Tirunelveli district, three from Kanyakumari district) took part in the event.

Daisy, a four year-old female Doberman belonging to Tuticorin district police, finished close second, while Inka (Tuticorin district), a three-year old female Labrador, and Kelly (Tirunelveli district), a five year-old female Labrador, walked away with third and fourth prizes, respectively.

A series of exercises such as ‘obedience test’, ‘refusal of food’, ‘retrieve over two hurdles of three feet in height’, ‘scent find’, ‘scent discrimination’ and ‘tracking on lead over 500 yards’, were conducted to test the proficiency of the participants.
