CHENNAI: With a view to framing guidelines and hammering out a mechanism for certification of eco-tourism ventures covering hotels, resorts, lodges and transport operations in the State, a one-day regional workshop” is being organised by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) on Wednesday.

Organised as a joint initiative by the Inter-State Council Secretariat, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the Union Ministry of Tourism, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department and the Yes Bank, the proposed regional-level eco-tourism governance meeting would facilitate tourism service providers to introduce improvements in their operations aimed at greater environmental and social sustainability by providing incentives and technical assistance.

The proposed certification system for eco-tourism would help to regulate tourism operations and provide niche marketing capabilities to service providers and help generate business out of 60 million eco-tourists travelling world over. Senior officials from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Puducherry tourism departments are expected to participate at the workshop.
