The Sripuram Trust, recently floated by textile entrepreneurs, has rolled out an ambitious project to address the acute shortage of skilled workforce in Tirupur and also to improve health of the labourers. T. R. Vijayakumar, an apparel exporter and coordinator of the Trust, said the Trust would hold rural skill development programmes at 50 places across the State for training the youth in apparel making skills and bring them to Tirupur as trained workers. He said that plans were afoot to provide hostel facilities to the workers.
Raja M. Shanmugam, another coordinator of the Trust, said that with the objective of improving overall health and hygiene aspects in Tirupur knitwear cluster, the Trust would join hands with Corporation from Friday to ensure proper removal of garbage from the city to the dumping yard.
“This is essential to contain the mosquito menace, which is a big threat to the health of the migrant workforce in Tirupur cluster,” he added.
The Trust would also be helping the police to set up CCTV cameras across the city so as to enhance the safety in the city.
