COIMBATORE: Workers from different industries have joined hands to form a community-based organisation in Periyanayakanpalyam.
With assistance from Native Medicare Charitable Trust, a non-Governmental organisation, the Labour Initiative for Voluntary Health and Education Trust (LIVHE) will look into the health issues of the labour force in the 64 industries on the Mettupalayam Road.
The Trust will also organise health education programmes and health camps and help the industry create more awareness on HIV/AIDS. It will also campaign for the HIV/AIDS policy in the industry.
The peer educators (employees who talk to the rest of the workforce about HIV/AIDS and the methods of treatment and prevention) from labour unions bear the executive posts in the Trust with the support of the management.
The Trust is now involved in providing support for the HIV/AIDS infected and affected families.
