Government officials, members of political parties and people from different walks of life paid tributes to ‘Perarasar Perumpidugu Mutharayar’ on the occasion of his 1,338{+t}{+h}birth anniversary here on Thursday.

On behalf of the State government, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries T.P. Poonatchi garlanded the statue of Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar in the city.

Government’s Chief Whip R. Manoharan, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, MLAs M. Paranjothi, N.R. Sivapathy, R. Chandrasekar, and T. Indira Gandhi, and Mayor A. Jaya paid their respects.

Representatives of the DMK, BJP, Congress and the DMDK, Tamil Nadu Mutharaiyar Munnetra Sangam founder president R.Viswanathan and Veera Mutharaiyar Munnetra Sangam founder president K. Selvakumar also garlanded the statue.

Strong contingent of police personnel was deployed at Othakadai, where the statue has been installed, and elsewhere in the city as a precautionary measure to prevent untoward incidents, police sources said.
