A comprehensive Tribal Development Programme was launched in Erode district to enhance the quality of life of tribal people in the hilly areas.

The project will be implemented at a cost of Rs. 4.26 crore through the Myrada Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will provide the financial assistance under the Tribal Development Fund.

Launching the project at a function held recently, Collector T. Soundiah said that over 1,000 tribal families would be given saplings of fruit crops such as mango and amla.

Each family would be given at least 20 saplings and the Myrada would take care of the maintenance of the crops for a total of seven years. “This arrangement was made as the crops might require over seven years to bear fruit,” the Collector said.

Thalavadi and Arepalayam clusters in Thalavadi block, Kadambur cluster in Sathyamangalam block and Bargur cluster in Anthiyur block in Erode district were selected for the implementation of the project. The Collector appealed to the people to put in their wholehearted efforts for the successful implementation of the project.
