Temporary repair works in Kumaran Nagar region inspected

TIRUCHI: The State Transport Minister K.N. Nehru has sanctioned Rs.15 lakh from his Local Area Development Fund for blacktopping of roads in Kumaran Nagar region here.

The Minister made the announcement after inspecting, along with the Mayor Sarubala R. Tondaiman, the temporary repairs being carried out on the roads in the colony. Most of the roads in this and other neighbouring residential colonies have been badly damaged after they were dug up for laying the underground sewer lines. The rain has rendered them slushy and unmotorable.

A couple of weeks ago, Mr. Nehru, who represents the Tiruchi-II Assembly constituency, inspected the condition of the roads in the nearby Ammaiyyappa Nagar, and directed the Corporation officials to carry out temporary repair works on the roads by dumping gravel. Residents have been complaining that the condition of the roads had remained poor even after dumping gravel.

Inspecting the work at Kumaran Nagar on Saturday, Mr. Nehru directed the Corporation officials to manually even out the roads so as to make them motorable. On being informed by the officials that a couple of the roads in the colony would soon be blacktopped at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs, Mr.Nehru said he would sanction Rs.15 lakh for blacktopping more roads in the locality. He directed the officials to complete the works within a month. He also instructed the civic officials to ensure that proper drains were provided on either side of the roads. All encroachments should be removed to make way for proper draining of rainwater, he said and appealed to the local residents to extend their cooperation with the officials.

The Deputy Mayor M. Anbazhagan, the Ariyamangalam zonal chairman Jerome Arockiaraj, the Corporation Commissioner B. Balachandran, and other officials accompanied the Minister.
