Checking conducted in Coimbatore, Erode and Nilgiris
Team intercepted 1,367 vehicles and booked 186 cases
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Circle of the Transport Department in a drive against violation of road rules during the week-end has intercepted 1,367 vehicles and booked 186 cases.
In a release issued here, Deputy Transport Commissioner T. Gunasekaran said vehicle checks were conducted on all arterial roads in Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris by eight Regional Transport Officers and their teams besides the Enforcement team. During the check, the officers have registered cases for overloading of goods, overloading of passengers, over shooting the height restrictions in terms of load, parcels unaccompanied by passengers in omni buses, evasion of tax, plying without driving licence, without pollution under control certificate, without insurance cover, without permit, use of dazzling head lights, misuse of permit conditions, use of air horns besides nearly 100 cases of other violations.
The drive resulted in a realisation of Rs. 2,04,140 as tax and Rs. 57,390 as compounding fee for offences.
