A technical snag in the transformer at Seriyalur village near Keeramangalam has affected irrigational operation in the vicinity, resulting in withering away of crops.

Withering away

A section of farmers from the village said that the standing crops on a large area were withering away. Chokkalingam, a coconut grower, said that he would incur a heavy loss, if the fields were not irrigated immediately.

He said that Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation should come to the rescue of farmers and take immediate action to set the snag right.

M. Udaiyappan, district executive member of Communist Party of India (Marxist), said that the TANGEDCO should evolve and implement a comprehensive plan for stabilising power supply to farmers across the district.

He said that stand arrangement should be made to replace the transformers with technical snag. There was also serious shortage of electric poles, he said.

Adequate infrastructure

A TANGEDCO source said that a special plan has been prepared seeking adequate infrastructure, particularly additional transformers.

The generation of power supply would also stabilise in course of time, especially once the Koodankulam nuclear power project went into stream. Immediate action would be taken for rectifying the snag at the transformer at Seriyalur.
