Rail fracture in the Ariyalur – Vriddhachalam broad gauge section on Sunday resulted in the detention of three trains, while many others were operated with speed restrictions.

Railway sources said the rail fracture was noticed by a gang man between Ichchangadu and Mathur railway stations in the early hours and he alerted his superiors immediately.

The Chennai-bound Ananthapuri Express from Thiruvananthapuram and Madurai – Nizamuddin Express were detained at Mathur railway station for over an hour. A Tiruchi – bound passenger train from Vriddhachalam was detained at Ichchangadu for nearly 70 minutes.

Several trains were operated with speed restrictions on that stretch. - Staff Reporter
