Programme organised for employees of hotels

Udhagamandalam: The need to be in a state of preparedness for any eventuality was underscored in a programme jointly organized by the Department of Fire and Rescue Services and the Taj Savoy Hotel here on Friday.

With the employees of the Taj Savoy and Sullivan Court, another hotel in the corporate sector taking part, fire and rescue services personnel demonstrated different ways of dealing with fire-related emergencies and effective ways of administering first aid to those who had been affected.

Speaking to The Hindu, the General Manager, Taj Savoy, R.Pashupathy, said that in keeping with the importance being given to guest and property safety by the Taj Group ‘Safety Week' was being observed in all units of the group since Monday.

Having been set in motion with the administration of a Safety Pledge the observance had featured a number of activities including evacuation in which even the guests had participated.

The guidelines had been provided by a high-level committee.

The Station Fire Officer M.Unnikrishnan said that as part of the centenary celebrations of the fire services, steps have been initiated to enhance awareness about the hazard and familiarize the people with fire fighting methods.
