70 employees from Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Thanjavur attend

TIRUCHI: Creating awareness among workers about ways of handling industrial materials, operating cranes and working with electrical circuits would go a long way in enhancing the safety of workers, speakers at the training course on ‘safety in fabrication industries’ observed.

Organised by the National Safety Council (NSC), Tamil Nadu chapter - Tiruchi Action Centre, here recently, the training course aimed at sensitising workers on safety education in industries.

Inaugurating the course, the General Manager, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), V. Ananthakrishnan, stressed the importance of such training programmes for the employees in the industries to check the incidence of accidents in work places.

In his presidential address, the Joint Chief Inspector of Factories, Tiruchi, and Chairman, NSC, Tiruchi Action Centre, P. P. Janarthanam highlighted the safety measures followed in different factories and annual activities of Tiruchi Action Centre of NSC.

The Additional General Manager of BHEL G. Srinivasan delivered key-note address.

About 70 employees from various industrial units situated in and around Tiruchi, Pudukottai and Thanjavur districts were benefited from the course.

In the technical sessions that followed, K. Muthukumar from BHEL spoke on accident prevention, while K. Arul, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, Thanjavur, was the resource person for ‘Industry- acts and rules.’ R. Venkatesan, a safety consultant, addressed the workers on ‘Material Handling,’ B. Vadivalagan from BHEL spoke on ‘Crane Safety,’ K. Anbazhagan, Safety Officer on ‘Electrical Safety’ and K. Thambidorai, the director, HR, Cethar Vessels, on ‘Welding Safety.’

The Additional General Manager, Safety Management, BHEL, and the secretary of the NSC, Tiruchi Action Cetre, G. Moses, the Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, Tiruchi, S. Rathinam, also spoke. Mr. Janarthanam gave away certificates to the participants at the valediction.
