: To emphasise the importance of maintaining quality standards, a four-day training programme on internal audit for medical testing laboratories is being organised here from June 27 to 30. The Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre (MMHRC) is conducting the certificate training programme in association with Foundation for Quality India.

Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, Anil Malleshi Betigeri, Chief of Laboratory Services, MMHRC, said that internal quality audit was one of the main quality assurance tools in maintaining the standards prescribed by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). The broader objective of the conference, he said, was to encourage hospitals, laboratories, pathologists, microbiologists, biochemists and laboratory supervisors to implement NABL standards in their own set up.

“Accuracy in results is important for any testing laboratory. Often we can see results varying from one lab to another lab. That was because the standards are not uniform. There are several laboratories, which are yet to begin accreditation process,” Dr.Anil said.

The training programme helps the labs to implement quality management systems and issue accurate test results. Participants will be given orientation on ISO 15189-2007 requirements for medical testing laboratories. They will be able to maintain quality system documentation and learn types of internal audit and reporting. Ravikumar Mantri, laboratory manager, MMHRC, said that lab technicians from various places had been invited for the programme and they would be taught the latest standards and procedures in medical investigations.
