Udhagamandalam: People connected with various political parties should be permitted to enter polling stations only when they want to cast their votes and not at any other time, said the Nilgiris Collector and Returning Officer, Anandrao V. Patil, while addressing a meeting organised here on Sunday to impart poll-related training to micro observers.

It was part of the series of meetings organised over the past few days in different parts of the district to train officials in the conduct of the election. About 320 Central and State government officials participated.

Stating that all the poll officials should be present at the booths allotted to them two hours before the voting commenced, he said that the electronic voting machines should be kept ready one hour before the doors of the booths were thrown open. Voting should start exactly at 7 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. If any untoward incidents took place, the officials should not waste any time in informing the authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, various government offices connected with the conduct of the elections have become beehives of activity.
