CUDDALORE: The police on Sunday arrested Gandhiappan, a trainee lecturer in Anna University, Chennai, on charge of assaulting a head constable.

The police said that Gandhiappan, along with two others, had boarded the bus bound for Chidambaram at the main bus stand here. All the three sat on the bonnet of the bus, to which the driver objected, saying that it would hamper his driving.

When the three did not move, the driver alighted from the bus and refused to drive the vehicle.

Murugesan, a head constable attached to the Cuddalore Port police station, who was also in the bus, asked the trio to get off the bonnet.

A verbal exchange that followed ended up in a fight. Murugesan sustained a bleeding injury below his right eye. He was admitted to government hospital.

The police booked a case and arrested Gandhiappan.
