ERODE: Railway Ministry has been asked to introduce a train service between Coimbatore and Tirupathi.

K.N. Basha, general secretary, Erode District Congress Minority Cell, and former member of Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee, said in a letter to Union Minister Mamata Banerjee that in the absence to a train linking Coimbatore with the pilgrimage centre, devout Hindus in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Salem found the travel difficult.

He also asked for additional coaches in Train No.6610 (Nagercoil Express). While Nilgris, Cheran, Yercaud and Tiruvananthapuram express trains had 10 or more second class coaches, there were only eight in the Nagercoil train, he said and asked the Minister to introduce two second class.

Mr. Basha also sought extension of the Chennai-Tiruchendur special train beyond January and introduction of trains from Erode to Coimbatore at noon and 4.30 p.m.
