A landslide disrupted traffic on the busy Ooty-Coonoor National Highway on Monday.

Sizeable chunk of land below Sathya Sai Nagar along the highway suddenly came down with a lot of vegetation including a tree early in the morning.

Fortunately there were no vehicles or pedestrians at the spot when the slide occurred. However since the tree fell on an overhead electric line, power supply to some areas was hit.

Traffic was diverted via Lovedale and Kotagiri till the road was cleared by fire and rescue services personnel and others. The spot is being studied by the authorities concerned to establish the cause of the landslide.

The incident subjected commuters including many office goers to considerable inconvenience. Having been battered by torrential rains accompanied by howling winds and bitter chillness over the last few days, many parts of the Nilgiris including Ooty and Coonoor experienced marginally better weather on Monday.
