The festival will be held on February 17, 18

Restrictions on the movement of vehicles on the Gudalur-Theppakadu-Masinagudy-Bokkapuram road between dusk and dawn would be relaxed on February 17 and 18 in view of the annual festival at the Mariamman temple in Bokkapuram, according to a press note issued by the Nilgiris Collector, Archana Patnaik.

However, on both the days only buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) and government vehicles would be permitted on the Thalaikundah-Kalhatty-Masinagudy road after dusk.

She asked the people to avoid cooking on the sides of the Kalhatty-Masinagudy-Theppakadu-Thorapalli road and also along the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve road.

They should not trigger bush fires, burst crackers, discard waste materials particularly plastic items, play drums or use loud speakers. She cautioned that those who violated the wildlife rules would be fined Rs.1, 000.

Since it was a wildlife habitat they should ensure that they adhere to road rules and avoid over loading and speeding. Stating that a police control room would function at Bokkapuram, Ms.Patnaik said that people in need of assistance can contact phone number 0423-2526939.
