Traders in Cholapuram area of Kumbakonam town downed shutters on Tuesday demanding protection for traders.

The bandh call was given by the traders association of Cholapuram following attack on two traders - Haj Mohammed(58) and Zakir Hussain(45), both neighbours and running grocery shops- from the area by some unidentified persons last night. The two were returning home in a bicycle at 10 p.m. when they were attacked by a group hiding nearby. The traders were looted cash and cellular phones both worth Rs. 40,000.

They were admitted to government hospital, Kumbakonam.
