Commercial establishments downed their shutters here at T.R. Pattinam pitching their long-stated demand for a halt station for the trains here, on Wednesday.

Led by the Thirumalai Vanigar Sangam, business establishments staged a one-day shutdown and a token hunger strike demanding a halt station at the T.R. Pattinam Railway Station. It has been a long-standing demand of the people.

It has been two years since the Karaikal line was commissioned and the newly constructed T.R. Pattinam station between Nagore and Karaikal has been put to disuse.

Tthe station has become a haven for anti-social activities. The public here had demanded that the station be made into a halt station, when passenger trains were first extended up to Karaikal. The business community, supported by Karaikal Development Committee Chairperson and MLA V.M.C. Sivakumar, staged a rally up to the railway station and sat on a day-long fast.
