CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation has extended the validity of Chennai-Mamallapuram hop-on-hop-off tour bus ticket by 24 hours with immediate effect, according to Tourism Commissioner M. Rajaram. TTDC operates the service from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and the validity of the ticket is extended by 24 hours to those passengers intending to stay in Mamallapuram for a day.

“In the last three weeks, we have been seeing a good number of people boarding the bus at different points from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thereafter, there is a lull. Those purchasing ticket after 4 p.m. have very less time to travel and have been requesting us to extend the time limit. Owing to popular demand, we have extended the validity of ticket for 24 hours for onward journey alone,” Mr. Rajaram told The Hindu on Monday. Besides, TTDC has also started issuing tickets from Marundeeswarar Temple for the hop-on-hop-off tour, as it has emerged as the second best embarking point in the city. “So far, nearly 1,000 people have utilised the hop-on-hop-off tour, of which 10-15 per cent are foreigners. TTDC will continue to offer 25 per cent discount on the ticket charge for some more time ,” he added.
