Wards of police personnel, who had performed exceedingly well in their secondary and higher secondary examinations in 2010, were honoured with cash awards.

Ten toppers each in SSLC and HSC examinations were honoured by the Superintendent of Police, V. Balakrishnan, at a function held at the District Police Office here on Friday.

Distributing cash awards, he said that the police have been serving the people without any time frame.

Many policemen did not know what their children were doing at home or at school. They could not concentrate on the day-to-day affairs of their wards and assist them in preparing for the examinations owing to the burden of work.

Even in such a critical condition, these students worked hard independently and came out with flying colours. “It was a good job done by every child of police personnel,” praised the Superintendent of Police.

Later, he distributed cash awards to 20 meritorious students. A total of Rs. 61,500 - Rs. 27,500 for SSLC toppers and Rs.34,000 for HSC toppers were disbursed at the function.

Girls swept most of the awards in the SSLC examinations and shared with boys equally the awards for the HSC examinations.

First rank holder among the wards of police personnel in the district in SSLC examinations S. Shobana received the cash award of Rs.6,500, second rank holder B. Sadhana Jothi got Rs.4,500 and third rank holder M. Subbu got Rs.2,500.

Other top scorers T. Janani, M. Jayapriya, M. Dharshana, N. Priyanka, A. Soundirya Priyadharshani, S. Pavithra and S. Ilakkiya were honoured with a cash award of Rs.2,000 each.

In the Higher Secondary examinations, first rank holder among wards of police personnel in the district M. Savithri received the cash prize of Rs.7,500, second rank holder R. Anbumani got Rs.5,500 and third rank holder A. Naga Nandhini received Rs.3,500.
