Prem Anand Sinha, a 2001 batch IPS officer, took charge as the South Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau headquartered in Chennai on Thursday. He will have jurisdiction over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Lakshwadeep. Mr. Sinha has earlier served as Superintendent of Police in Perambalur and Kancheepuram. Prior to his new assignment in the NCB, he was the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anna Nagar), Chennai.

Mr. Sinha said creating awareness of evils of drug abuse and intensifying vigil in vulnerable areas were among his priorities. An intensive campaign would be launched to sensitise courier companies to the steps to be taken to prevent movement of drugs through couriers, he said.
