NAMAKKAL: The death toll in the Namakkal oil mill fire accident rose to 16 as one of the workers, Ram Arokiya, a native of Bihar, who had sustained serious burns, died at the hospital on Sunday.

A major fire broke out at a private mill that was extracting oil from rice bran in Valaiyapatti near here on May 6.

Around 30 persons were working in the mill, when the fire broke out.

While a few persons managed to escape, others got trapped inside the mill.

The Fire and Rescue Service personnel put out the flames.

Ten persons were charred to death inside the mill.

Nine persons who sustained serious burns were admitted to different hospitals.

Of them five persons succumbed to burns, earlier.
