The district administration has launched a toll free telephone number ‘18004251997’ for the common man to inform the district administration on the hardships they faced by them or the defects in the various government departments and offices in Namakkal district.

District Collector J. Kumaragurubaran told The Hindu that the helpline had been installed in the Collector’s camp office. “People can register complaints over phone in this number on all working days during the working hours – 10 a.m. to 5.45 p.m.,” he added.

“The toll free number is to enable the poor complainants to make free phone calls to lodge their grievances they faced in government offices,” he said.

“A register will be maintained by a staff who will attend the calls and make a note of the name of the complainant (which will be maintained as confidential), nature of the complaint, and against whom and which department.

Issues such as child marriages and illegal quarrying will be addressed immediately, he noted.
