Erode RTO has renewed Chinnusamy’s licence just for a day’s validity

ERODE: Farmer K. Chinnusamy is at a loss to know if he can or cannot ride. For, the Regional Transport Office, Erode, has renewed his licence with just a day’s validity. And that too for the day in the previous month.

His problems began when he approached the RTO on September 24 this year to renew his motorcycle driving licence, which expired on August 30.

He submitted the renewal form, surrendered his old licence F/TN/33/002667/2001, issued on March 16, 2001, and paid Rs. 350 as fees. The very day September 24, 2008 he got a new licence TN33/20010002667, which said it was valid till August 31. That is for just a day and that too in the previous month.

Flummoxed, Mr. Chinnusamy approached Regional Transport Officer C. Ganesh, who after wrestling with the software, Sarathi, expressed helplessness. Mr. Ganesh told The Hindu that he has got in touch with the National Informatics Centre, which developed the software, and ELCOT to debug ‘Sarathi’.
