Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Employees Union affiliated to AITUC has launched a signature campaign in support of its various demands.

K.Ulaganathan, Thiruthuraipoondi MLA launched the campaign by collecting the signatures of the employees at the old bus stand here on Thursday.

Mr.Ulaganathan said that the signatures containing the demands will be given to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on April 16 . Signatures will be collected at all branches of the Transport Corporation till April 10.

The demands include immediate payment of leave encashment, cash award for drivers who have recorded accident-free driving, implementation of wage agreements, uniform, stitching charges which have been stopped by the corporation citing fund crisis as reason. In this connection, Transport Corporations have spent Rs.2,000 crore that was meant for employees welfare for other purposes. They also demanded payment of amount deducted from employees' salaries to organisations like LIC, HDFC etc properly.

Drivers and conductors who have served for 240 days should be made permanent. They also urged for payment of bonus at the rate of 11.67 per cent. D.Mathivanan, general secretary of the Kumbakonam unit of the TNSTC Employees Association, V.Subramaniam, president, K.Sundarapadiyan, treasurer, R.Thirugnanam, CPI district secretary, C.Chandrakumar, state secretary of AITUC participated.
