A team of five students from the Department of Agricultural and Rural Management of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University won the regional-level business plan contest held for post-graduate management students of business schools at GRG School of Management Studies here.
The team comprising S.P. Kanimozhi, B. Navaneetham, P. Shiyam Sundar, P. Shobana, and P.K. Ullas, presented a business plan on friendly fibres to go with the theme ‘an entrepreneurial venture with a social value’.
The business plan bagged the first place and the team received a purse of Rs. 15,000.
The plan was to produce banana fibres for making banana paper bags and fibre hand bags from pseudo stems, which are usually disposed as waste.
The plan aimed at not only at generating revenue, but also ensuring better utilisation of waste left over with the help of farmers and self-help group women.
The team competed with 11 others from B-schools from Kochi, Mysore, Erode, and Coimbatore.
