TNAU confers honorary doctorate on Thiru Arooran Sugars chairman

Honorary doctorate was conferred on Ram V. Thiyagarajan, Chairman and Managing Director of Shree Ambika Sugars and Thiru Arooran Sugars Ltd Groups at the 32nd convocation of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University at Coimbatore on Wednesday, according to a press release issued here by Shree Ambika Sugars Ltd. The doctorate has been conferred in recognition of his industrial, economic and social contribution to society. The doctorate was conferred by K. Rosaiah, Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of the TNAU.

S.Damodaran, State Agriculture Minister, K. Kasturirangan, Member, Planning Commission, and N.Raguveera Reddy, Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Urban Land ceiling, Government of Andhra Pradesh, participated in the convocation, the release said.

The Managing Director of Thiru Arooran Sugars group, a popular company in the state, hails from an agricultural family. His father V.S.Thiyagaraja Muadaliar was the first person to build a sugar factory at Vadapathimangalam in Tiruvarur district. This paved the way for starting other sugar factories-five in number-both in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
