The Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation has been renamed as Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation.
Originally, the 44-year-old organisation was entrusted with the functions of printing and distributing textbooks to students studying in government schools and government-aided schools, besides selling textbooks at reasonable price to self-financing private schools.
As a sequel to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s announcement last year, the Corporation will hereafter handle procurement of materials such as school bags, and other educational kits, all of which have been procured by the offices of Directors of different wings.
This means that there will be a centralised procurement of materials, according to an official.
A government order in connection with the change in the title of the organisation was published in the government gazette last week.
