On the founder of Shenbaga Tamil Arangu
TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi Tamil Sangam conferred the title ‘Senthamizh Thondar’ on the founder of Shenbaga Tamil Arangu, Srirangam, K. Rajavelu Shenbagavalli, in recognition of his marked contribution to the growth and popularity of various facets of Tamil language and literature among the masses.
P. Mookkapillai, a patron of the sangam, conferred the title at a function held here recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mookkapillai lauded the yeoman services being rendered by Rajavelu by organising various programmes for the propagation of Tamil through the Arangu. Conduct of weekly meetings for the past several years, promoting interaction on contemporary literature and analysis of ancient literature were some of the regular events, while special events were marked by seminars and other annual literary functions.
The Vice-Principal of Navalar N. M. Venkatasamy Nattar Tiruvarul Tamil College, Thanjavur, N. Periasamy delivered a special lecture on the topic ‘Valluvam Kattom Vaazvu Neri’ on the occasion.
The convener of the Tamil Sangam, C. Sivakozhundu, said the award was being conferred in memory of Tamil scholar and founder of the sangam D. Dorairaja Pillai.
Mr. Rajavelu in his acceptance address said that such honour would enhance his responsibility to serve the cause of Tamil.
