Voters in Tiruvannamalai municipality, seven town panchayats and 434 panchayats in 10 panchayat unions in Tiruvannamalai district are set to exercise their franchise in the first phase of local body polls to be held on Monday.

Out of 315 sensitive booths identified in the district, 174 fall in the first phase of polling.

District Collector Anshul Mishra told The Hindu that all these 174 booths would be manned by micro observers who were picked from nationalised banks and the LIC.

That apart, these booths would be guarded by police and covered by video recording, he added.

Apart from the lone Tiruvannamalai municipality, seven town panchayats that go to the poll on Monday include Chengam, Pudupalayam, Kilpennathur, Vettavalam, Polur, Kalambur and Chetpet.

According to Superintendent of Police B.Shamoondeswari 2,500 security personnel are engaged in poll security.
