Tirupur: The infrastructure-starved Tirupur town will be given a facelift and made a model town if the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) comes to power in the State, the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dayanidhi Maran, said here on Thursday. Campaigning for the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate for the Tirupur Assembly constituency, C. Govindasamy, Mr. Maran expressed his displeasure over the lack of infrastructure in the town that exports knitwear worth Rs. 7,000 crore a year.
On the issue of pollution, Mr. Maran said the Centre was ready to help the dyeing industry to establish effluent treatment plants. Mr. Maran also campaigned for the Avinashi Assembly CPI candidate, M. Arumugam.
