K. Thangavel, the MLA (Tirupur South), has filed a writ petition in Madras High Court against the appointment of M.S.M.Anandan, the MLA (Tirupur North), as the correspondent-cum-chairman of Tirupur Kumaran College for Women, which comes under the control of Tirupur Cooperative Housing Society.
According to Mr. Thangavel here on Thursday, he should have been appointed as correspondent-cum-chairman instead the government appointed Mr. Anandan against bylaws of society.
The controversy on the appointment of chairman in the said college had arisen after the Tirupur was divided into Tirupur North and Tirupur South as well as some portion of the undivided Tirupur got merged with Palladam constituency from the last Assembly elections onwards. Previously, the Tirupur MLA was designated as the ex-officio chairman and correspondent of the college.
But with delimitation of constituencies, the office of the Tirupur Cooperative Housing Society is situated in Tirupur South limits and the college is in Palladam.
The contention of Mr. Thangavel is that with the by-laws of the said cooperative society not been changed, the appointment of Mr. Anandan, who is now Minister for HR and CE, was illegal considering that the office of the society was situated in Tirupur South constituency.
