The tirunakshatram of Tiruppanazhwar was celebrated at Sri Kamalavalli Nachiyar Temple at Woraiyur here on Thursday marking ‘Rohini’ star in the Tamil month of Karthigai.
Tiruppanazhwar was born in Woraiyur and the Nachiyar temple has a separate shrine dedicated to him. Special pujai was performed to Tiruppanazhwar and the processional idol was taken out through the streets around the temple.
Tiruppanazhwar, brought up by Panan sect - an untouchable group in those days, was an ardent devotee of Lord Ranganatha and merged with the idol after glorifying Him. His life signifies the fact that Lord Ranganatha is dear to devotees not by virtue of caste or knowledge but only through devotion and love. In the evening, Velukkudi Krishnan, delivered a discourse on ‘Kattave Kandavar’.
