TIRUCHI: R. Vairavel, Retired Head Master of Trinity Aided Elementary School at Adavathur has reaped pride for Tiruchi district by winning the National Award 2006 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s scheme of National Award to Teachers.

Mr. Vairavel, who retired from service at the 114-year-old institution earlier this year, would receive the award, that includes a cash component of Rs.25,000, from the President at New Delhi on September 5, 2007.

Having been honoured by the State Government with the Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award for 2003-04, the national honour was only waiting to happen as Mr. Vairavel was instrumental in inculcating the habit of saving among over 90 percent of the 210 students in the school under the Sanchayika Bank scheme, and utilising the same for taking the students on educational tours to expand their horizons of thinking.

Under his guidance, teachers and students of the school have earned the goodwill of the All India Radio by prompt despatch of response sheets recording their observations and analysis about the programmes broadcast on elementary education. The school had produced 33 programmes as well for the slot on elementary education, thereby gaining the recognition as the Best School for 12 times since 1981.

Mr. Vairavel has decided to take a contingent of 26 persons comprising family members and well-wishers to New Delhi, to be with him in his moment of intense happiness.
