TIRUCHI: Several parts of Tiruchi district received sharp showers on Tuesday night, providing relief from the searing summer heat.

Tiruchi city received sharp showers for about an hour. The rain was accompanied by strong winds, which brought down several temporary hoardings.

Navalur Kuttapattu received the maximum of 95 mm of rainfall during the 24 hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The chief amount of rainfall received in other parts of the district during the same period were as follows (in mm): Vathalai 72.40; Samayapuram 53.50; Tiruchi Junction 48; Tiruchi Town 47; Marungapuri 40.20; Tiruchi Airport 26.20; Sirugudi 22; Golden Rock and Lalgudi 21; Thuraiyur 17; Thathiyengarpet 16.60; Kovilpatti 12.20; Pullampadi 6.80; Nandhiyar 6 and Manapparai 4.20.

The district received an average of 23.27 mm of rainfall.
