A surgery performed by a team of three veterinarians on a three-year-old cow that suffered a torn uterus saved it and its calf.

Veterinarians, who performed the surgery, said that the procedure went on for more than three hours.

The cow owned by B. Saroja (35) of Thoosur was suffering from pain and was rushed to the Government Veterinary Hospital on Trichy Road, where the surgery was immediately performed.

“Delay in treatment would have resulted in the death of the cow and the calf,” Dr. M. Selvaraju, who was among veterinarians who performed the surgery, said.

Veterinarians said that the cow and calf are in sound health and will be in the hospital for observation for the next 10 days. Other veterinarians who performed the procedure were Dr. R. Ezekiel Napoleon and Dr. K. Ravi Kumar.
