The Collector requested banks to grant educational loan to Aneesh The State Bank of Travancore has come forward to grant Rs.2.40 lakh as education loan to the fisherman's son

Nagercoil: The timely assistance extended by the district administration has helped a student belonging to fisherman community to pursue his education.

Peter of Thuthoor in Kanyakumari district, who ventured in to the sea for fishing from Gujarat along with six others eight months ago was arrested by the Pakistani authorities on charges of crossing the international boundary line.

However all the seven fishermen were released recently, thanks to the efforts taken by the Central Government.

But the Pakistan authorities detained their boats and fishing nets.

As a result, all the seven fishermen and their family members were put to untold hardships.

In the meantime Aneesh, son of Peter, who was studying B.Sc. (Nautical Science) at Pallavaram in Chennai, could not pursue his education due to poor financial situation of his family. When he was about to discontinue his studies, the villagers asked him to seek the help of the Collector, Sunil Paliwal.

On hearing the plight of Aneesh, the Collector requested the banks to grant educational loan to him. The State Bank of Travancore has come forward to grant Rs.2.40 lakhs as education loan to Aneesh in order to facilitate him to complete his course at Chennai.

First instalment disbursed

The Collector also disbursed a sum of Rs.60,000 as a first instalment to him during the launching of District Rural Industries Project here on Wednesday.
