Over 1,000 police personnel deployed

ERODE: Security has been tightened in the district in view of the Vinayaka idol procession on Thursday. Over 1,000 police personnel would be deployed for security duty. In Erode and its surrounding areas over 125 idols have been placed for the past five days. These idols would be taken to Sampathnagar for immersion on Thursday afternoon.

Immersions

From there it would be taken in a procession on the main streets of Sampathnagar, Periyavalasu, Municipal Colony, Mettur Road, Brough Road, Fort, Eswarankoil Street, Cauvery Road. Later it would be immersed in the River Cauvery.

Reviewing the security arrangements, the Superintendent of Police, Sonal V. Misra, told reporters that all arrangements have been made for the peaceful conduct of the procession.

The idols kept in various places at Dharapuram were taken in a procession on Tuesday and immersed in Amaravathy River.

At Sathyamangalam the idols were immersed in River Bhavani.
