Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the counting of votes in four centres in the city on Friday. About 4,000 police personnel, including Central para military forces would be deployed for security, Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran said on Wednesday.

Counting of votes for 17 Assembly constituencies would take place in Anna University, Loyola College, Queen Marys College and Mohammed Sathak Arts College. Each counting centre would be supervised by a Joint Commissioner of Police with the assistance of two Deputy Commissioners of Police, he said.

Mr. Rajendran said a three-tier cordoning system would be in place at the centres. A senior magistrate would be part of the outer cordon. Journalists could access details of counting in different rounds at the media centre.

Chennai Corporation Commissioner D. Karthikeyan said postal ballots would be counted first. About 1,300 employees were deployed for the counting duty.
