Mechanical Engineer among three arrested
The forest personnel seized a tiger skin and two python skins here on Monday. Three persons, including an engineering graduate, were arrested in this connection.
Sources said that two teams, which were formed by the forest department to prevent wildlife offences, received information that a few persons were attempting to sell a tiger skin and a few python skins.
A team of personnel posing as buyers approached Ashwin, a resident of Chennai and a Mechanical Engineering graduate, who reportedly offered a tiger skin and two python skins for sale. The personnel held negotiations. It was said that Ashwin demanded Rs. 3 crore to part with the skins.
To carry out further negotiations, the team asked Ashwin to come to Erode along with the skins. When he reached Erode, the personnel arrested Ashwin along with two of his accomplishes Baburaj and Balamurugan, both residents of Tirupur.
Conservator of Forests, Erode Circle, D. Arun said that the tiger skin had been sent to the Wildlife Crime Bureau, who would certify that whether skin was original or a fake .
“We are yet to ascertain the origin of the skins. We have launched a search for two more persons, who were involved in the skin trade,” Mr. Arun said.
