Forest Department officials on Wednesday foiled an attempt by some persons to sell tiger claws at Mavanhallah, near the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

A team posing as buyers spotted Bellie (42), a tribal woman, and her son Sathish (24) of Mavanhallah carrying eight tiger claws. Based on the information provided by them Dorairaj (35) of Mavanhallah too was arrested and recovered four tiger teeth from him.

Mr. Haja said that the claws and the teeth had been removed from a tiger carcass which was in a highly decomposed state and they had been in possession of the accused for over a fortnight.

Bandhan of Avarhallah, near Masinagudy, was arrested and some panther claws were recovered.
