CHENNAI: Three persons were killed when a container lorry ran over them at Red Hills on Wednesday night.

According to police, Panneer Selvam (27) and his friends Kumaresan (27) and Swaminathan (26) were returning home on a motorcycle at 11 p.m. On seeing police checking vehicles at a distance, Panneer Selvam stopped the bike and asked Swaminathan to get down to avoid police questioning them for triple riding.

As Swaminathan was getting off the motorcycle, a speeding lorry that came from behind ran over them. The three suffered multiple injuries and died on the way to hospital. Local people gathered at the scene and resorted to road roko in protest against frequent road accidents in the area.
