Honour for successfully implementing total sanitation project for year 2008-09

Tuticorin: Three gram panchayats have emerged as Nirmal Gram panchayats in Tuticorin district. Collector G. Prakash handed over shields and awards to the respective panchayat presidents on Wednesday at Collectorate for having successfully implemented the total sanitation programme for the year 2008 – 09.

The village panchayats including Kulaiyankarisal, Servaikaranmadam and Mullakadu have been chosen for the Nirmal Gram Purashkar awards. P. Arulselvan, Panchayat President of Kulaiyankarisal, K. Aadhi Narayanan, Panchayat President, Serviakaranmadam and R. Valarmathi Ravindran, Panchayat President, Mullakadu received the awards from the Collector in the presence of C.K. Veeranan, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency.

A total of 20 gram panchayats in the district had been chosen for the honour for the year 2009 – 10, Mr. Prakash said.

During the year 2007 – 08 as many as 43 gram panchayats achieved the recognition. A. Kutralingam, Executive Engineer, Rural Development, Block Development Officers and Balasakthidasan, Assistant Public Relations Officer were present.
