Will benefit students going to colleges

CHENNAI: Buses on three new routes of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation began operations on Monday.

The new routes are M28 between Tiruvottiyur and Anna Square; M 56W between Toll Gate and Madhavaram and M56 between Toll Gate and Ennore.

While four buses would be operated in the M28 route, M56W and M56 would be operated with one bus each, MTC authorities said.

Easy to reach Marina

The M28 Tiruvottiyur-Anna Square service would help people get to Marina Beach and the other two services would benefit students going to colleges in the northern suburbs, they said.

The M28 service will be operated from Tiruvottiyur through Toll Gate, Tondiarpet, Thyagaraya college, Vallalar Nagar, Regal, Elephant Gate, Walltax Road, Central Station, Anna Salai, Wallajah Road, Bells Road, Triplicane and terminate at Anna Square.

The new service between Toll Gate and Madhavaram (M56W) would pass through Tiruvottiyur, WIMCO, MFL, MRL, Manali Market, Mathur Gate, Madhavaram Milk Colony before terminating in Madhavaram.

The M 56 service between Toll Gate and Ennore would pass through Toll Gate, Tiruvottiyur, Ernavoor, Ashok Leyland and Ennore and in the return direction the service would be operated via Ennore Thazhanguppam, WIMCO Nagar, Tiruvottiyur and Toll Gate, added the Metropolitan Transport Corporation authorities.

Minister flags off services

K.P.P. Samy, Minister of Fisheries flagged off the new services from Tiruvottiyur on Monday morning.

R. Balasubramanian, Managing Director, MTC and other senior MTC officials were also present.
