In a road accident near Kottampatti, two persons were killed on the spot, while an on-looker who crossed the road on the four-way lane to have a glimpse of the victims was fatally knocked down by a speeding vehicle in the early hours of Friday.

Madurai district police said that the bus which was coming from Salem to Thirupathur collided against a stationary lorry. In the process, the conductor Murugesan (40) and a passenger identified as Chinniah (45) died on the spot.

Even as there was a commotion, an on-looker in the area who attempted to cross the four-way lane to see the road accident victims was hit by a speeding vehicle.

The hit turned out to be fatal accident. Police identified the person as Perumal (55) of Pallapatti. Kottampatti police are investigating.

Textile shop near Keelavasal burgled

Unidentified miscreants decamped with Rs two lakh cash from a textile shop situated at the Keelavasal junction. According to the complainant Gopal (29) son of A. Varadarajan of Lakshmipuram Second Street, he had locked the shop on the night of deepavali and reopened on Friday morning. The cash realised from sales were kept in the almirah.

However, a sum of Rs 2,17,391 was missing. Some miscreants had broken open the front lock in the grill door and gained entry. Vilakuthoon police have registered a case and are investigating.

In-patient found hanging in GRH

A 33-year-old in-patient was found hanging in a ward at the Government Rajaji Hospital on Friday.

Police said that Sunil Kumar, son of Doraisamy of Salai Pudur, Koilpatti had got admitted in the hospital about three days back.

The ailment was not known, but police suspected that the patient was having some problem with his friends in his native place, which may have forced him to take the extreme step to end his life.

The body has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation is on.
