On Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway at Koothur near Samayapuram

TIRUCHI: Three persons were killed and three others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a van and a container lorry on the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway at Koothur near Samayapuram in the district on Friday.

The lorry carrying some articles was on its way to Chennai from Tirunelveli and the container lorry was proceeding to Tuticorin from Chennai when the two vehicles collided head-on.

The occupants of the van Prateep (22), Belco (22) and Franklin (30) all hailing from Kanyakumari district, died on the spot, while those travelling in the container lorry including its driver Immanuel, who has been cited as the accused in the case, sustained injuries.

The Samayapuram police have registered a case, the police here said.
