TIRUPUR: The police on Saturday arrested three persons on the charges of stealing goods from a duty-paid shop here on December 8.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police, V. Balakrishnan, said that an eight-member gang stole mobile phones, video cameras, cordless phones and Rs. 5 lakhs from the shop.

The arrested were: Ganesan (23), Chinnathangam (26) of Sembatty and Raja (23) of Jaihindpuram in Madurai. They were caught while trying to sell a mobile phone.

Mr. Balakrishnan said that the gang led by Kannan of Dindigul, accused of killing the former Minister, Aladi Aruna, was involved in several thefts in Palani and Dindigul areas. The police have launched a manhunt for five others including Kannan.

107 sovereigns recovered

The Coimbatore police have arrested four persons and recovered 107 sovereigns of jewellery. The arrested were: Selvam (36) of Theni, Selvendran, Kaviarasan alias Mahesh of Madurai and Kumar alias Sudalai Kumar of Tirunelveli.

With the arrest, the police claimed to have solved seventeen cases of house breaking.Three-and-a-half kg of silver too had been recovered.
