In separate incidents, the city police on Sunday arrested two persons on the charge of snatching chains and another on the charge of stealing gold jewellery from a house. The police also recovered 20 sovereigns of jewellery from them.

During a vehicle check at the Kurichi Junction, the Podanur police arrested S. Syed Sabil (32) of Ukkadam and R. Logesh (28) of Podanur, and recovered 12 sovereigns from them.

Cases pending

Six cases were already pending against them, two each in Podanur and Peelamedu police stations, one each in Kuniamuthur and Saravanampatti stations.

The police said that the duo used to target women who were walking alone on the roads.

In another incident, the Rathinapuri police arrested C. Mariyappan (19) of Vellore district on the charge of stealing eight sovereigns from a house in Chokanthottam.

The police said Prabhu's wife Vinitha Margaret had kept the jewellery in the hall and later found it missing. A case was registered.

Investigations revealed that Mariyappan, posing himself as speech impaired, was collecting money from people in the area.

At Margaret's house, he stole the jewellery as the doors were open.
